Catalinbread Fuzzrite Ge is an almost exact copy of an original germanium transistor Mosrite Fuzzrite but with a modern twist.

From the years of 1966 to 1968, Mosrite produced two distinct fuzz circuits, one outfitted with silicon transistors, the other with germanium parts. Of the two, the germanium version is by far the most rare, with original designer and Mosrite employee Ed Sanner estimating that around 250 ever made it out the door.

The people at Catalinbread happen to have a germanium version of the Mosrite at their disposal, and have used it as a benchmark to create an extremely faithful version with a modern twist. Just like the original, the Catalinbread Fuzzrite Germanium includes two NOS PNP germanium semiconductors with a polarity inverter IC so it plays nice with all forms of power. Unlike the original, they’ve added a toggle switch to shift into modern mode, significantly beefing up the low-end content to suit more contemporary rigs.

Catalinbread Back before most people heard the term “boutique” in reference to music gear, something was brewing in all corners of the globe, spurred by the Internet and the ability to share information freely. Guitar players began to look backwards to move forwards, combining time-tested approaches to pedalcraft with forward-thinking ideas. The Pacific Northwest’s answer to this boom was Catalinbread, born in 2003 on Nic Harris’s kitchen table. After producing the Super Chili Picoso, the first Catalinbread-branded pedal exclusively for ToneFactor, a Seattle-based guitar shop. Adventurous designs The sales of this fur-lined pedal went on to fund some more adventurous designs, and before long Catalinbread had outgrown both its business model and modest shop space, packing up the truck and ending up in Portland, Oregon. The company had been here since 2006, and is now manufacturing over 30 unique pedals, built by human hands, one by one.
