In addition to an electric guitar and an amplifier, there are more accessories that can make playing the guitar more fun or easier.

It often happens that you want to connect different devices together. For example, not all brands of effect pedals use the same MIDI outputs. Chase Bliss pedals use a TRS (Tip-Ring-Sleeve) connection for MIDI cables, where the ring is ‘active’. Other brands use TRS connections where the sleeve is ‘active’. And then there are also pedals that use a normal DIN5 plug. And there are MIDI controllers that use mini-jack TRS connections. In short, it often happens that you are looking for an adapter with which you can connect different devices to each other.

Audio and MIDI
Also note that there are cables that may look like they can carry an audio signal but are not suitable for this. For example, TRS cables use a stereo jack plug that looks the same as a plug on your headphones. However, it is better to only use a TRS for your expression pedal or MIDI connection and not for audio purposes.
