Maxon CS-9 Pro Stereo Chorus s bold and resonant without sounding harsh and has an edgy, almost grainy quality that keeps your tone articulate and prevents wash-out.

The circuit is based around the Panasonic MN3207 Bucket Brigade IC and a custom-tuned oscillator circuit provides enough speed for authentic rotary speaker simulation, and just the right amount of modulation for a lush vibrato that won’t leave you feeling queasy. With its Delay Time control the CS-9 Pro can venture into Flanger territory, adding a resonant, hollow quality to the effect that’s great for solos. A top-mounted Blend control allows you to adjust the level of the Chorus effect to set it back in the mix against your dry signal.

A unique feature of the CS-9 is its ability to create spatial effects that add dimension to your guitar tone without the traditional Chorus wobble.  With Speed and Depth set low and the Delay Time at max, the Pro thickens your sound much in the manner of a double-tracked guitar, adding girth and life without excessive modulation. The chorus features stereo outputs for mono, stereo, or inverted mono signal routing. The CS-9 Pro is essentially the same as Maxon’s CS550, but in a smaller chassis and with battery or AC power options.

Maxon Guitar Effects

Maxon Guitar Effects is a Japanese company best known for designing and manufacturing high-quality guitar pedals, particularly overdrive, distortion, and fuzz pedals. Originally established in the 1960s as part of the Nisshin Onpa Co., Maxon initially produced pickups and eventually moved into effects pedals, working as an OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) for major brands, including Ibanez. The company became particularly famous for developing and producing the iconic Tube Screamer overdrive pedal for Ibanez, one of the most influential and widely-used pedals in guitar history.

Solid build quality and analog warmth

Over the years, the company developed a strong reputation for innovation, often pioneering new effects circuits that became industry standards. Their pedal designs emphasize tonal clarity, durability, and analog warmth, appealing to both vintage enthusiasts and modern players. Maxon’s effects pedals are highly regarded for their build quality and sound, with many musicians and collectors seeking out both vintage models and newer reissues for their reliability and distinct sound. Today, Maxon produces a range of pedals under its own brand name, including overdrive, distortion, delay, chorus, and other effects. While still relatively boutique, Maxon’s pedals have a dedicated following among professional musicians and tone enthusiasts worldwide.
