DOD Overdrive Preamp 250-X is the 10th evolution of DOD’s legendary OD250, designed to deliver unmatched tonal versatility for guitar players of all levels and styles.
With three distinct distortion modes and modern refinements, it’s the most flexible 250 yet. At its heart, the pedal keeps the same Gain and Level controls that made the original a classic, while expanding the sonic palette with a three-position toggle switch:
SILICON – symmetrical clipping for the iconic 250 sound
ASYM – asymmetrical clipping for rich, even-harmonic distortion
LIFT – removes diode clipping for a clean boost at moderate settings or a dirty boost at higher levels, pushing the vintage-style LM741 op amp
Housed in a durable aluminum chassis and weighing just 8 ounces (250 grams), the pedal is built for both stage and studio. Whether you’re after classic grit, harmonically rich drive, or a powerful boost, the 250-X delivers it all in a compact, road-ready pedal.
DOD Electronics is an American company known for producing guitar effects pedals and other audio equipment. Founded in 1973 by David Oreste Di Francesco and John Johnson, DOD initially gained attention for its innovative and affordable effects pedals, which became staples for guitarists and musicians across various genres.
DOD's line includes overdrive, distortion, delay, chorus, and reverb pedals. Notably, the DOD 250 Overdrive Preamp and the DOD Grunge pedal are some of its most iconic products. Their pedals are known for their simple designs and reliable sound quality. They often feature intuitive controls and are built to withstand heavy use.
Popular in the 1980s-1990s
The company achieved widespread popularity in the 1980s and 1990s, particularly with guitarists in rock, metal, and grunge scenes. In 1990, Harman International acquired DOD, and the brand was integrated into Harman’s audio equipment line. This period also saw the rise of DigiTech, another effects pedal brand under Harman, which eventually eclipsed DOD in market prominence.
Back in business
After a period of dormancy, DOD was revived in the 2010s with reissued versions of their classic pedals, attracting both vintage gear collectors and modern musicians. This brand remains a recognized name among musicians, known for its pioneering role in shaping the sound of modern guitar music.
