Catalinbread Talisman Ghost is the sound off two 70s plate reverbs. It adds lush ambience, dimension, thickness, and depth in an unobtrusive way.

Catalinbread are big on creating devices that serve as exacting models of vintage equipment, but part of reimagining old technology is stepping outside the boundaries of possibility.

In the plate reverb realm, Catalinbread’s Talisman already pushed the boundaries of what a real EMT 140 could sound, a giant sheet of metal suspended in a frame with springs and clamps, by adding a handful of tasteful appointments designed to create controls where once were none.

The Talisman Ghost takes a step further by simulating two EMT 140 plate units working in modulated tandem. The result is a luscious chorus-like effect, applied only to the reverb trail. This ground-up reimagining took a careful look at the diffusion characteristics of a real EMT 140, bolstered by the luxury of having a second 600-pound behemoth running in parallel, which most studios did not.

The Talisman Ghost can be powered by any center-negative 9 to 18V DC power supply.

Catalinbread Back before most people heard the term “boutique” in reference to music gear, something was brewing in all corners of the globe, spurred by the Internet and the ability to share information freely. Guitar players began to look backwards to move forwards, combining time-tested approaches to pedalcraft with forward-thinking ideas. The Pacific Northwest’s answer to this boom was Catalinbread, born in 2003 on Nic Harris’s kitchen table. After producing the Super Chili Picoso, the first Catalinbread-branded pedal exclusively for ToneFactor, a Seattle-based guitar shop. Adventurous designs The sales of this fur-lined pedal went on to fund some more adventurous designs, and before long Catalinbread had outgrown both its business model and modest shop space, packing up the truck and ending up in Portland, Oregon. The company had been here since 2006, and is now manufacturing over 30 unique pedals, built by human hands, one by one.
