Catalinbread EG1 is a versatile lo-fi delay that transforms the characteristic imperfections of classic audio and transmission technologies into creative sounds. With three distinct modes – Radio, Tape and Digital Television – its character ranges from subtly weathered repeats to pronounced filtering, digital artifacts and unstable tape effects. This makes the EG1 equally at home with short country slapback delays, experimental ambient textures and massive shoegaze soundscapes.
Each mode gives the MOD control a different function. Radio combines high-pass and lo-fi filtering with radio-style artifacts, Tape adds modulation, distortion and classic wow & flutter, while Digital Television introduces digital downsampling, Nyquist artifacts and subtle bitcrushing. The Transmission control lets you determine how prominently these distinctive effects are applied to the delay repeats.
Alongside its distinctive lo-fi character, the EG1 offers everything you would expect from a modern delay pedal. You get up to 900 ms of delay time, feedback capable of reaching self-oscillation, a Mix control ranging from completely dry to fully wet, and integrated tap tempo. The pedal also offers several tap modes, including a Tap Bypass mode that retains the set tempo when the effect is bypassed.
The pedal is powered by a standard 9 volts power supply (not included).

Catalinbread
Back before most people heard the term “boutique” in reference to music gear, something was brewing in all corners of the globe, spurred by the Internet and the ability to share information freely. Guitar players began to look backwards to move forwards, combining time-tested approaches to pedalcraft with forward-thinking ideas.
The Pacific Northwest’s answer to this boom was Catalinbread, born in 2003 on Nic Harris’s kitchen table. After producing the Super Chili Picoso, the first Catalinbread-branded pedal exclusively for ToneFactor, a Seattle-based guitar shop.
Adventurous designs
The sales of this fur-lined pedal went on to fund some more adventurous designs, and before long Catalinbread had outgrown both its business model and modest shop space, packing up the truck and ending up in Portland, Oregon.
The company had been here since 2006, and is now manufacturing over 30 unique pedals, built by human hands, one by one.
