The Belle Epoch Deluxe Echo CB-3 New promises exact EP-3 circuitry, from the 22 volt power rail, to the JFET preamp (later spec), to the mixer stage, to the high gain silicon transistor based record and playback amplifiers, to the feedback loop. This black/silver is exactly the same as the previous grey/blue one.

All circuitry is faithfully reproduced and fine-tuned from the original EP-3 specifications. The only thing missing are the record and playback heads, with a 24-bit high-fidelity digital delay line taking the place of the tape.

All-discrete, through-hole construction with orange drop 225P capacitors, carbon composition resistors, germanium diodes, and other premium parts.

This tape delay ..elay ..lay ..ay ..y is Catalin’s flagship pedal. The Belle Epoch Deluxe Echo CB-3 produces delaytimes from 80 to 800 ms. In comparison with its little brother is has 6 different programs: a classic EP-3 tape delay, dark bucket brigade delays and leslie, wah, chorus and vibrato modulations.

Back before most people heard the term “boutique” in reference to music gear, something was brewing in all corners of the globe, spurred by the Internet and the ability to share information freely. Guitar players began to look backwards to move forwards, combining time-tested approaches to pedalcraft with forward-thinking ideas. The Pacific Northwest’s answer to this boom was Catalinbread, born in 2003 on Nic Harris’s kitchen table. After producing the Super Chili Picoso, the first Catalinbread-branded pedal exclusively for ToneFactor, a Seattle-based guitar shop.

Adventurous designs

The sales of this fur-lined pedal went on to fund some more adventurous designs, and before long Catalinbread had outgrown both its business model and modest shop space, packing up the truck and ending up in Portland, Oregon. We’ve been here since 2006, now manufacturing over 30 unique pedals, built by human hands, one by one.
