Vibrato

Vibrato is a musical effect that consists of a regular, pulsating change of pitch. It is the sound of old cassette tapes and records that sound ‘out of tune’. Vocal and instrumental music often use it as a means of expression.

The effect is made up of two factors: the amount of pitch variation and the speed in pitch variation. In singing, it often arises spontaneously at the end of a sentence.

Special effects pedals have been designed for guitar. The pedal duplicates the incoming signal and then delays it. This delay is then modulated and the original signal is removed. If you don’t omit the original signal, you have a chorus pedal.

There are not a lot of effect pedals with just the vibrato effect. Usually it is part of a number of other effects. Many chorus pedals have a vibrato function. Considering the way in which the effect is created, this also makes sense, it is in fact a chorus but without the original signal.
